What most people neglect is image resolution. You have probably seen several photo birth announcements printed at home using the above mentioned setup wherein the photo leaves a lot to be desired in terms of clarity. In most such cases, the creator of the announcement probably used a very low resolution. For the best possible image reproduction, it is essential that you use the highest appropriate resolution whether you are taking the picture or scanning it into your computer's image editing program. That being said, using a too high resolution isn't necessarily the best way to go either, as overly high resolution pictures can eat up too much of your computer's resources and possibly even cause it to grind to a halt.
